INORGANIC ZINC SINGLE-PACKAGE HEAVY DUTY PRIMER

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Pruett-Schaffer’s #99-12886 Inorganic Zinc Primer is a single package, moisture-curing, solvent-based, alkyl silicate primer. It will provide excellent galvanic protection against sub-film corrosion of ferrous metals in aggressive environments.

RECOMMENDED USES

This product is recommended for use where a long-lived, heavy duty steel primer with corrosion, chemical, and heat resistant properties is required. When fully cured this primer is extremely abrasion resistant, has excellent exterior weathering characteristics, and will withstand up to 800°F un-topcoated in non-immersion service. It is recommended for immersion service un-topcoated with organic solvents, salt, and water. It provides excellent resistance when properly topcoated to heavy fumes and spills of acids, alkalis, solvents, salt, and water. This coating is electrically conductive and can be welded without appreciable reduction in the strength of the weld and with minor burn back of the coating. These characteristics, coupled with its high wetting ability and lack of tensile pull across welds and corners, makes this coating a superior pre-construction primer or shop coat.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR

This product is not recommended for immersion service with acids or alkali, or for un-topcoated incidental exposure to heavy fumes or spills of acids and alkalis. It will protect against mild fume exposure to these chemicals

. PACKAGING

This single package primer provides the same degree of galvanic corrosion protection to steel as a two component system, but with one package ease of use. The metallic zinc has been premixed into the primer and is packaged in 5-gallon steel pails weighing 92 lb gross each.

SHELF LIFE

When kept near room temperature in unopened

original containers, the storage life of this product exceeds 9 months.

COLOR

Available in matte finish gray or green. Custom colors available on request with minimum order.

ENVIRONMENTAL

This product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive emissions, and contains no lead or chromate. It is not VOC compliant for the railcar or architectural maintenance industries.

SAFETY

Read and understand the Material Safety Data Sheet for this product before using it. This coating should be applied by experienced professional painters only. In enclosed spaces, airline respirators or forced ventilation may be required. Protective equipment should be worn at all times. Zinc is incompatible with water. If contaminated with water, this product may generate hydrogen gas and cause tightly re closed containers to burst.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove all weld spatter, slag, and oxides caused from welding. This primer will not adhere to existing coatings of any kind. For non-immersion service preparation of new steel: degrease and abrasive blast in accordance with SSPC-SP-6 Commercial Blast to obtain a 1-3 mil profile. For severe or immersion service or for previously coated steel: degrease and abrasive blast in accordance with SSPC-SP-10 Near White Blast to obtain a 1-3 mil profile. A
