CLEAR EPOXY FLOOR TOPCOAT, UV-RESISTANT

DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT

#85-13586 Clear Epoxy Floor Topcoat is a high performance, two component, self leveling, epoxy cycloaliphatic amine clear coating. It is designed to be applied over Pruett-Schaffer 84-Series Epoxy Floor Coatings. It provides a durable, beautiful, high-gloss finish with excellent resistance to ultraviolet light, acids, alkalies, oils, fuels, salt, and solvents. This product is designed for use by experienced professional applica-tors only.

PACKAGING

This coating is packaged and labeled as 85-13586-A Clear Epoxy Floor Topcoat and 85-B Hardener Component. Each component is supplied in 5-gallon pails; the epoxy component is filled to 2 gallons each and the hardener component is filled to 1 gallon each. The shipping containers may be used for mixing on the job site.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Apply over clean, dry, properly cured 84-Series Epoxy Floor Midcoat within the specified recoat window. If the midcoat has become dust covered, it should be washed with clear water before topcoating.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

Allow the components to reach room temperature before using, best results are obtained when applied at 70-80 °F. Completely pour a pail of B Component into a pail of A component and mix well with a low speed paddle mixer. Avoid entraining air into the coating. Then pour the mixed coating into the B Component pail just emptied and mix again (boxing).

APPLICATION METHOD

Use only freshly opened shipping containers for mixing; mixing epoxy in previously used containers will accelerate the cure of the system dramatically. Always clean the mixer blades between each use.

Working quickly, apply the mixed coating to the floor with a 3/32 inch notched squeegee or short napped roller (¼ inch or less) to smooth out the coating. Apply in a cross-coat pattern to assure complete wetting of the substrate. Areas adjacent to obstructions may be coated with a brush or roller. Do not exceed the recommended dry film thickness; extremely thick films tend to yellow.

THINNING AND CLEANUP

Thinning should not be necessary under normal application conditions. If applying below 50 °F, thin with xylol to a maximum of ½ quart per mixed 3-gallon pail.

Clean equipment with xylol or a xylol/MEK mixture.

CURE AND RECOAT TIME

This coating cures to light foot traffic in 48 hours at 70 °F. Ultimate cure and chemical resistance is achieved in 7-10 days at 70 °F. If touchup is necessary, recoat within 24 hours or reduced intercoat adhesion may occur. Longer curing times may be necessary when air or substrate temperatures fall below 50 °F.
