GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s #69-1 Clear Urethane is an very fast air drying, water based, aliphatic polyester urethane coating. It is designed as a medium to high gloss, spray applied clear finish coat for a variety of exterior or interior maintenance applications. It exhibits good film hardness and flexibility, and excellent water, solvent, and abrasion resistance. RECOMMENDED USES This product is recommended for general maintenance use on a wide variety of substrates including existing coatings, cold rolled steel, aluminum, concrete, and plastics. It will provide long term, cost effective protection against water, salt, oil, and alkali cleaners. SURFACE PREPARATION At a minimum for acceptable performance, surfaces to be coated must be clean and dry, free of oil/grease, loose rust/paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk. Feather all rough or sharp edges. Existing coatings must be tightly adhering. Some well-cured existing coatings may need to be deglossed by sanding or abrasion for this coating to develop its best adhesion; test patches should be made to determine if adhesion is adequate. THINNING Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary; if thinning is desired add a little water at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. APPLICATION EQUIPMENT Air assisted or airless spray application is preferred. Use a .017-.020 inch tip. May be applied by brush or roller. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. |
Rollers should have a nap thickness of 1/4 to 3/8 inch. Apply to 4-8 mils wet film thickness (1-2 mils dry film thickness). DRYING TIME Dries tack free in 1 to 2 hours at 77 0F and 55% R.H. Force drying ovens may be used, do not exceed 300 0F; allow 30 minutes minimum for flashoff of solvent before heating.CLEANUP Clean equipment with water before the film dries. ENVIRONMENTAL This product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive emissions. It is VOC compliant for the railcar maintenance industry, and contains no lead, chromate, zinc, or free isocyanate.
