BLACK URETHANE BRUSHING ENAMEL |

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s #67-7 Black Enamel is a air drying, solvent based, urethane modified alkyd paint. It is designed as a high gloss, brush applied finish coat for a variety of exterior or interior maintenance applications. It exhibits good flexibility, corrosion resistance, color fastness, and exterior durability. RECOMMENDED USES This product is recommended for general maintenance use on masonry and concrete floors, general metal equipment, and wood wherever a good quality alkyd finish is needed. It will provide long term, cost effective protection against water, salt, oil, alkali cleaners, and household chemicals. Use where the ambient temperature will not exceed 300 0F. Not recommended for immersion service or for areas subject to prolonged chemical solvent exposure.SURFACE PREPARATION For best results, metal substrates should be blasted to SSPC-SP-6 commercial blast, with a 1 mil blast profile, and primed with a good quality alkyd primer (such as Pruett-Schaffer #30-12620). Unpainted concrete surfaces should be primed with this material thinned 5-10% with xylol, then recoated within 24 hours with full strength material. All previously painted concrete surfaces should be scraped or sanded to remove all loose coating and to scuff up the surface to provide better adhesion, then washed and allowed to dry completely.
|
Bare wood surfaces should be primed or coated twice with this paint. Existing coatings must be tightly adhering and deglossed by sanding for best adhesion. In general, this coating is very tolerant of less than perfect surface preparation, so hand or power tool cleaning may be sufficient for many applications. At a minimum for acceptable performance, surfaces to be coated must be clean and dry, and free of oil/grease, loose rust/paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk. Feather all rough or sharp edges. THINNING Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary. Thin with xylol or mineral spirits when using as a primer coat over bare concrete; add a little thinner at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 10% by volume. If applying to substrates exceeding 90 0F, use Aromatic 100 thinner.APPLICATION EQUIPMENT May be applied by brush or roller. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. Rollers should have a nap thickness of 1/4 to 3/8 inch. Apply to 3-4 mils dry film thickness (6-8 mils wet) when no primer is used; or 2-3 mils dry film (4-6 mils wet) over primer. DRYING TIME Dries tack free in 3 to 4 hours at 77 0F; dry to light foot traffic or light handling in 18-24 hours; ultimate cure in 7-10 days. If recoating this material with itself, use within

24 hours or intercoat adhesion may be reduced. Force drying ovens may be used, allow 30 minutes minimum for flashoff of solvent before heating. CLEANUP Clean equipment with mineral spirits, xylol or toluol before the film dries. It is VOC compliant for the architectural maintenance industry, and contains no lead, chromate, or zinc.
