CLEAR MATTE POLYURETHANE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Pruett-Schaffer’s #67-24 Clear is a fast air-drying, VOC compliant solvent based, urethane modified drying oil/alkyd. It is designed as a matte finish brush or spray applied finish coat for a variety of exterior or interior maintenance applications. It exhibits better abrasion, corrosion and electrical resistance than conventional alkyds along with good color fastness, and exterior durability.

RECOMMENDED USES

This product is recommended for general maintenance use on fabricated steel, wherever a higher performance single component finish is needed. It will provide long term, cost-effective protection against water, salt, oil, alkali cleaners, and household chemicals. Use where the ambient temperature will not exceed 300 ^F. Not recommended for immersion service or for areas subject to prolonged chemical solvent exposure.

SURFACE PREPARATION

This product may be used direct-to-metal as supplied. For best results, metal substrates should be blasted to SSPC-SP-6 commercial blast, with a 1-mil blast profile. In general, this coating is very tolerant of less than perfect surface preparation, so hand or power tool cleaning may be sufficient for many applications.

At a minimum for acceptable performance, surfaces to be coated must be clean and dry, and free of oil/grease, loose rust/paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk. Feather all rough or sharp edges.

THINNING

Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary. If applying to substrates exceeding 90 ^F, use Aromatic 100 thinner.

APPLICATION

May be applied by brush, roller, or conventional airless or air-assisted spray equipment. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. Rollers should have a nap thickness of ¹/₄ to ³/₈ inch. Use a .015-. 020-inch spray tip size. Apply to 3-4 mils dry film thickness (6-8 mils wet) when applied direct to metal. For best protection apply in 2 coats. Allow overnite dry before recoating

DRYING TIME

Dries tack free in 30-45 minutes at 77 ^F; dry to light handling in 1-2 hours; ultimate cure in 3-5 days. If recoating this material with itself, use within 48 hours or reduced intercoat adhesion may occur. Force drying ovens may be used, allow 30 minutes minimum for flashoff of solvent before heating.

CLEANUP

Clean equipment with mineral spirits, xylol or toluol before the film dries.

ENVIRONMENTAL

This product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive emissions. It is VOC compliant for most industries, and contains no lead, chromate, or zinc.
