GENERAL
DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s
#66-15182 Blue Polyurethane is a two
component, air drying, solvent thinned, aliphatic polyisocyanate cured acrylic
modified polyester coating. It is
designed as a heavy duty, high gloss topcoat for use over primed metal
substrates. RECOMMENDED
USES Use
to protect machinery, tanks, and structures from corrosion in aggressive
environments where chemicals, salt, water, fuels, and oils are present. This coating exhibits good flexibility and
resistance to impact cracking, and has excellent exterior weathering
resistance and gloss retention. It is not recommended for immersion service. SURFACE
PREPARATION For
severe service, metal substrates should be degreased and blasted to an
SSPC-SP-10 white metal blast with a 1.0 +/- .5 mil blast profile, and primed
with an epoxy primer, such as Pruett-Schaffer’s 10-Series Epoxy Primer (or
equivalent) or an Inorganic Zinc Primer.
An SP-6 commercial blast may be sufficient for many repair or DTM
applications with less severe requirements. Weathered galvanized metal must
be cleaned of rust and oxidation products by sweep blasting or power
washing. All surfaces to be coated must
be clean, dry, and free of oil and grease, weld spatter, burning slag,
overspray, and dust. Sharp edges
should be ground smooth. |
MIXING
INSTRUCTIONS Mix
4 parts by volume #66-15182-A with 1 part 66-B Hardener. Mix at slow speed to avoid entraining air
into the paint, box the containers while mixing. Use at once, there is no induction time. THINNING Thin
if necessary for spraying with xylol or methyl isobutyl ketone. Add a little solvent at a time to the
mixed system with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. APPLICATION
EQUIPMENT May
be applied by air assisted or airless spray.
Airless spray gives the best results, use .015-.020 inch tip
size. Apply at 3 mils wet film
thickness to yield 1.5 mils dry film thickness. Best results are obtained from films of 1-2 dry mils, films
thicker than 2 mils may bubble. Apply
when air and substrate temperatures are between 50-110 0F. CURE
TIMES & TEMPERATURES Cures
set-to-touch in 1.5 to 2 hours at 75 0F, cures to handle in 24 hours. Although recoating is not normally
necessary if applied over a primer, this coating may be touched up or
recoated. The recoat window is 8 to
48 hours; waiting longer may result in reduced adhesion of the second coat. Allow 7-10 days cure at 75 0F before placing into severe service,
longer cure times may be necessary if the ambient temperature is
significantly lower. |
CLEANUP Clean
equipment with xylol or methyl isobutyl ketone before the film cures. ENVIRONMENTAL This
