GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s #50-1 is an air-drying, solvent based, oil modified asphalt varnish. It may be applied by brush, spray or roller. It exhibits good surface wetting properties for difficult to clean substrates and corrosion & water resistance. It provides a cost effective alternative to toxic coal tar based compounds for protecting steel, aluminum or concrete from normal environmental conditions. RECOMMENDED USES This product is recommended for general maintenance on steel or concrete structures wherever normal interior or exterior atmospheric conditions exist. It is designed for use as a corrosion preventative & waterproofing compound over concrete & metal substrates, both above & below grade, exposed to humidity, salt water, oil, weak acids & alkalis. The coating is not normally topcoated & is not recommended for exposure to solvents, gasoline or other fuels. This formula is VOC compliant. It contains ceramic filler for improved abrasion resistance. The high solids content allows for a thicker film to be applied with better coverage on sharp edges. SURFACE PREPARATION For best performance, new metal substrates should be clean, dry, & free of oil/grease. Concrete should have all form release oils, curing membranes & dirt removed. This coating is very tolerant of less than perfect surface preparation. Feather all rough or sharp edges.		THINNING Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary. Thin if necessary for spraying with xylol or toluol. Add a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. In ambient temperatures over 85 ⁰F Mineral Spirits, Aromatic 100 or Aromatic 150 may be used if "dry spraying" occurs. APPLICATION EQUIPMENT May be applied by brush, air-assisted, or airless spray. Airless spray gives the best results, use .015-. 020 inch tip size. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. If applying with a cup type spray gun, thinning may improve application properties. Apply to 9-12 mils wet film thickness, to achieve 3-4 mils dry film thickness. DRYING TIME Dries tack free in 30 minutes at 70 ⁰F. CLEANUP Clean equipment with mineral spirits, xylol or toluol before the film dries.
