BLACK QUICK DRYING SEMI-GLOSS ENAMEL

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Pruett-Schaffer’s #35-13447 Black Quick Drying Enamel is an air drying, solvent based, chainstopped short oil length alkyd paint.  It may be applied by brush or spray over primered metal or DTM.  It exhibits good thin film hiding and corrosion resistance, and very fast dry in a semi- gloss conventional solids formulation.

RECOMMENDED USES

This product is recommended for general maintenance use on machinery, implements, and other steel equipment and structures wherever normal interior or exterior atmospheric conditions exist.  This paint will resist UV-induced chalking and fading, and provide a cost effective, easy to apply and attractive finish.  It exhibits exceptional adhesion to a wide variety of substrates including minimally prepared cold rolled steel, forgings, castings, and existing coatings. This coating is recommended for use over primed steel, but it may be applied direct-to-metal. Not recommended for immersion service or for areas subject to severe chemical exposure.

SURFACE PREPARATION

For severe service, metal substrates should be blasted to SSPC-SP-6 minimum, with a 1 mil blast profile, and primed with an alkyd universal primer (such as Pruett-Schaffer #30-13000). This coating is very tolerant of less than

perfect surface preparation however, so hand or power tool or chemical cleaning and application direct-to-metal may be sufficient for some applications.  At a minimum for acceptable performance, surfaces to be coated must be clean and dry, and free of oil and grease, loose rust and paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk.  Feather all rough or sharp edges.

THINNING

Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary.  Thin if necessary for spraying with xylol or toluol.  Add a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume.  In ambient temperatures over 85 0F Aromatic 100 or Aromatic 150 may be used if “dry spraying” occurs.

APPLICATION EQUIPMENT

May be applied by brush, air-assisted, or airless spray.  Airless spray gives the best results, use .015-.020 inch tip size.  Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction.  If applying with a cup type spray gun, thinning may improve application properties.  Apply to 1 mil dry film thickness if using primer, or 1.5-2 mils dry film thickness if used direct-to-metal.

DRYING TIME

Dries tack free in 15-20 minutes at 77 0F.  Dry to light handling in 2-4 hours.  Force drying ovens may be used, allow 15-30

minutes minimum for flashoff of solvent before heating.

CLEANUP

Clean equipment with xylol or toluol before the film dries.
