CLAY TAN SILICONE ALKYD ENAMEL |

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Pruett-Schaffer’s #32-1635 Tan Silicone Alkyd Enamel is a solvent based, air drying, silicone-modified alkyd paint. It is designed as a brush or spray applied, full gloss, maintenance finish coat. It exhibits very good flexibility and adhesion, excellent corrosion resistance, and excellent exterior durability.
RECOMMENDED USES
This coating exhibits exceptional gloss and color retention, among the best for all alkyd paints, and is recommended for use on steel structures, storage tanks, machinery, and buildings where a high performance alkyd finish is required. Because of its long service life but higher initial cost, it is specially recommended for use where surface preparation and repainting is difficult or expensive. This paint has good heat resistance compared to standard alkyds, and will resist discoloration (some colors will fade) and embrittlement to 450 F. It can be used on motors, machinery, hot pipes, and near furnaces where a standard alkyd would fail quickly.
This paint is not recommended for immersion service or for areas subject to direct contact with acids or alkalis. It is not recommended for use on wood or other dimensionally unstable substrates.
SURFACE PREPARATION
For best results with this coating, substrates should be blasted to an SSPC-SP-6 commercial blast with a 1 mil profile,
|
and all rough areas and sharp edges smoothed, then applied over a good quality corrosion resistant primer. This coating is tolerant of less than perfect surface preparation however, and hand or power tool preparation such as brushing, sanding or water blasting, then application direct to metal without a primer may be sufficient for many applications. At a minimum for acceptable performance, surfaces to be coated must be clean and dry, and free of oil and grease, loose rust and paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk.
THINNING
Under normal conditions, no thinning is necessary. Thin if necessary for proper spraying with xylol or toluol. Add a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. In ambient temperatures over 85 F Aromatic 100 or Aromatic 150 may be used if “dry spraying” occurs.
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT
May be applied by brush or air-assisted and airless spray. Airless spray gives the best results, use .015-.020 inch tip size. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. If applying with a cup type spray gun, thinning may improve application. Apply 4-6 mils wet film thickness to achieve 2-3 mils dry film build per coat.
DRYING TIME
Dries tack free in 3 to 4 hours at 77 F. Dry to handle or recoat in 24 hours. Force drying ovens may be used, allow 30
|
minutes minimum for flashoff of solvent before heating.
CLEANUP
Clean equipment with xylol or toluol before the film dries.
ENVIRONMENTAL
This product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive emissions. It is VOC compliant for the railcar and architectural maintenance industries, and contains no lead or chromate.
