GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s #29-32 Gray Enamel is a waterbased, fast air drying, alkyd-acrylic hybrid paint. It is designed for general use as a high gloss topcoat over metal substrates. RECOMMENDED USES This product is recommended as a maintenance coating for equipment and machinery, sheet and tube stock, shelving, axles, bins and tanks. This product exhibits the same excellent application characteristics of a waterbased alkyd, yet offers improved exterior durability and flexibility, improved gloss retention, and faster dry times. The VOC is less than most waterbased alkyds. Adhesion is outstanding to a wide variety of substrates including minimally prepared cold rolled steel, castings, forgings, aluminum, and existing coatings. SURFACE PREPARATION Apply as a direct-to-metal topcoat or over primer. For best results in DTM service, substrates should be blasted to SSPC-SP-6 minimum, with a 1 mil blast profile. Feather all rough or sharp edges. This coating is very tolerant of less than perfect surface preparation, so chemical cleaning, water blasting, or even hand or power tool cleaning may be sufficient, depending on the level of service required. At a minimum for acceptable performance, all surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free of oil and grease, loose rust and paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk. |
THINNING Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary or desirable. Thin if necessary for proper spraying with an 80/20 mixture of water/butyl cellosolve (Pruett-Schaffer Thinner #98-8937). Add thinner a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. APPLICATION EQUIPMENT This paint may be applied by dip tank application, air-assisted, or airless spray, roller, or brush. Apply 1.0 to 1.5 mils dry film thickness if used as a direct-to-metal. When using dip tank application, contact Pruett-Schaffer for further information regarding the pH and viscosity maintenance requirements of the product in a dip tank. DRYING TIME Dries tack free in 30-60 minutes at 77 0F and 50% Relative Humidity. Light handling may | ||
