WHITE WATERBASED LATEX ROOF PAINT |

GENERAL
DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s
#29-11 White Paint is an air-drying, water based elastomeric acrylic emulsion
paint. It is designed as a long
lasting spray applied, water tight, seamless membrane coating system. It offers a cost-effective alternative to
other more expensive roofing systems, while
still weathering well and
delivering superior protection for
years. The coating allows high film
build without sags and good reflectance properties that will reduce overall
cooling costs. It exhibits all of the desirable properties of standard water
based products such as low VOC,
toxicity and odor with non-flammability and soap and water cleanup.
Excellent adhesion to a wide variety
of substrates and superior long term flexibility gives 29-11
versatility. It may be used when
installing a new roof or to repair existing roofs. RECOMMENDED
USES This
product is recommended for new installation over metal, concrete and masonry,
wood roofs and decks, EPDM products, asphalt
roll roofing and shingles, slate, terracotta tile, aluminum and copper
flashing. It
may be used for repair of metal
roofs, leaking seams in weathered rubber roll roofing, for patching gutters
and for waterproofing leaking shingles and flashing. Not
recommended for use over Teflon materials, smooth concrete, NEW roll rubber
roofing, areas where water will pool for long periods of time, or solvent
exposures. Use where long term exterior durability , water resistance, and
flexibility is required. PAGE 2 OF 2 CLEANUP Clean
equipment with warm soap and water before the film dries. DRYING
TIME Dry
time will depend on substrate temperature, relative humidity, wind and solar
conditions, and film thickness. A 23 mil-wet film will cure in approximately
2-4 hours at 77 deg F. and 60% relative humidity, but may not be walkable at
this point! Full cure for a walk-on
recoat is normally achieved overnight under normal conditions, but cold
weather or high humidity may lengthen this cure time. |
SURFACE
PREPARATION At a minimum for acceptable performance,
all surfaces to be coated must be mechanically sound and free of oil/grease,
loose rust/paint, organic debris and moss. Soiled roofs should be power
washed or brushed with a water solution of trisodium phosphate (TSP) rinsed
thoroughly with clean water, and allowed to dry. This coating will adhere well to slightly damp surfaces (not
pooled water) as any water will be readily absorbed into the coating. Bare
metal surfaces or rusted areas should be cleaned and primed with a rust
inhibitive roof primer(P-S 20-13562 Red Oxide Primer). Heavily
rusted metal must be wire brushed or blasted, then cleaned and primed.
Painted metal surfaces must be in good condition; remove any loosely adhering
paint and spot prime. This product
may be applied directly to aluminum without a chemical pretreatment. Adhesion
to aged concrete and masonry surfaces is excellent but they should still be
power washed. Newly poured concrete with a smooth surface must have form
release oils and curing membranes removed and may require priming, etching or
other pretreatment. Contact a P-S representative for specific
recommendations. Gravel roofs may be repaired by covering the entire area
with plyscore mechanically attached through the deck, then coated using
membrane as with wood. THINNING Under
normal conditions no thinning is necessary or desirable. Thin if necessary with water only, do not
use organic solvents or oils. Add
water a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by
volume. ENVIRONMENTAL This
product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and
ozone reactive emissions. It contains
no lead, chromate, or zinc. PHYSICAL

APPLICATION
EQUIPMENT May
be applied by brush, roller, or airless spray. Airless spray gives the best results, and is highly recommended
for large jobs. Use a 30: 1 ratio drum or pail pump with a 3-4 gallon per
minute capacity, a hydraulic metal braid hose with a working pressure of 4000
psi, and a .028-.040 inch
reverse-a-clean tip . Use roller covers with 3/8
to 1/4-inch nap.
Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. APPLICATION
INSTRUCTIONS Note:
do not apply when air or substrate
temperature is below 50 deg. F. Protect from rain & heavy foot traffic
until completely cured. Mix well before use. A fully cured roof of 20-25
mils dry film is desired, and is usually applied in 2 coats. Reinforcing
membrane may or may not be incorporated, as desired. Apply Latex Roof Coating
to the prepared surface at a coverage rate sufficient to provide 23 mils of
wet film build, which is equal to 10 mils of dry film. DO
NOT apply at film builds exceeding this recommendation because the coating
may skin at the surface only, trapping solvent or water beneath and
shortening the service life. Heavier than recommended applications will also
result in very slow cure times and possible adhesion problems. If installing
membrane, apply it after the first coat. Overlap all seams, and brush or roll
membrane gently into the wet coating. Allow the coating to cure before
applying subsequent coats. When coating wood, thin the first coat
approximately 5% by volume to insure penetration into the surface. Follow
with a second coat at full strength, then install the membrane. Apply a third
and final undiluted coat. Page 1 of 2 |
