THOMPSON NEW RED WATERBASED QUICK DRY
ENAMEL |

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s
#28-62 Red Enamel is an air drying, water reducible alkyd paint. It is designed as a spray- or
brush-applied, high gloss, exterior finish coat for metal substrates. The cured film exhibits good flexibility
and corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and high distinctness of
image. RECOMMENDED USES This
product is recommended as a maintenance coating for equipment and machinery,
sheet and tube stock, shelving, axles, bins and tanks. It exhibits good
application characteristics and adhesion to a wide variety of substrates
including minimally prepared cold rolled steel, castings, forgings, aluminum,
and existing coatings. Not recommended for immersion service or for areas
subject to temperatures in excess of 300 0F.
The paint is not flammable and has very low toxicity. SURFACE PREPARATION Apply
over primer (follow primer surface preparation instructions) or
direct-to-metal. For best results in
DTM service, substrates should be blasted to SSPC-SP-6 minimum, with a 1 mil
blast profile. Feather all rough or
sharp edges. This coating is very
tolerant of less than perfect surface preparation however, so chemical
cleaning, water blasting, or even hand or power tool cleaning may be
sufficient, depending on the level of service required. At a minimum for acceptable performance,
all surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free of oil/grease |
,
loose rust/paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk. THINNING Under
normal conditions no thinning is necessary or desirable. Thin if necessary for proper spraying with
an 80/20 mixture of water/butyl cellosolve (Pruett-Schaffer thinner
#98-8937). Add thinner a little at a
time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. APPLICATION EQUIPMENT This
paint may be applied by brush, roller, dip tank application, air-assisted or
airless spray. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. Use roller covers with 3/8
to 1/4 inch nap. Use spray tips of 0.015-.020
inch. Apply 1 mil dry film thickness
if over primer, 1.5-2.0 mils dry film thickness if direct-to-metal. When using dip tank application, contact
Pruett-Schaffer for further information regarding pH and viscosity
maintenance requirements of dip tank. DRYING TIME Dries
tack free in 30-60 minutes at 77 0F and 50% Relative Humidity. Light handling may be possible in 90
minutes. High humidity will prolong
dry time more so than low temperatures.
To speed the dry time good air movement over the work and local
exhaust is recommended. Heat lamps or
forced warm air drying will reduce dry time in cold shops. CLEANUP Clean
equipment with warm soap and |
water
before the film dries. Run ethyl alcohol through spray guns after cleaning to
prevent corrosion of steel parts. ENVIRONMENTAL This product meets
current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive
emissions. It contains no lead,
chromate, or zinc. PHYSICAL
