GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Pruett-Schaffer’s #25-75-1 Aluminum Paint is a fast drying, water based acrylic emulsion paint. It is designed as a medium gloss, spray-, brush-, or roller- applied topcoat to be used over Follansbee Terne II steel roofing, flashing, metal gutters, and associated masonry or wood surfaces. The coating allows high film build without sags, and the desired dry film thickness can be applied in one coat. It is non-flammable, very low in toxicity, and contains very little volatile organic solvent (VOC).
RECOMMENDED USES
This product is recommended for general equipment, masonry, and steel structure maintenance. It exhibits exceptional adhesion to a wide variety of substrates including minimally prepared cold rolled steel, galvanized steel, masonry, brick, existing coatings, and even aluminum without pretreatment. Use where long term exterior durability and flexibility is required. Not recommended for immersion service or for areas where water pools for extended periods.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Apply over primer for severe service (follow primer surface preparation instructions) or direct-to-substrate. At a minimum for acceptable performance, all surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry, and free of oil/grease, loose rust/paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk. Spot prime rusty areas and feather all sharp edges. Degloss previously painted high gloss surfaces for best adhesion. |
THINNING
Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary or desirable for brushing or rolling. Thin if necessary for spraying with water only, do not use organic solvents or oils. Add water a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. This product is made as a special order color ONLY to reduce the tendency to outgas & or gel on long term storage due to reaction between the aluminum pigment & water.
APPLICATION EQUIPMENT
May be applied by brush, roller, or airless spray. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. Use roller covers with 3/8 to 1/4 inch nap. Use a .015-.020 inch gun tip size for spraying. Do not apply with a cup type spray gun.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Flat surfaces of standing seams and flat lock seams may be painted with a roller, but standing seams and all crevices should be brushed to achieve adequate coverage. Brush out all runs and sags. Mix paint well before use, and keep paint covered as much as possible to prevent skinning. Apply 5-8 mils wet film thickness to obtain the recommended dry film thickness of 2-3 mils per coat. 3-5 mils dry film total thickness is recommended for best performance.
DRYING TIME
Dries to recoat in 1 to 1.5 hours at 77 F and 50% Relative Humidity; dries hard overnight. High humidity will prolong dry time more so than low temperatures. Do not apply if rain is expected before the paint will dry hard. |
CLEANUP
Clean equipment with warm soap and water before the film dries. Run ethyl alcohol through spray guns after cleaning to prevent corrosion of steel parts.
ENVIRONMENTAL
This product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive emissions. It contains no lead, or chromate.
