GENERAL
DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s
#24-55 Yellow Paint is an air-drying, water based acrylic emulsion
paint. It is designed as a semi- to
high gloss, spray applied, direct-to-metal finish coat. The cured film exhibits very good salt and
chemical resistance. The coating
allows high film build without sags, and the desired dry film thickness can
be applied in one coat. RECOMMENDED
USES This
product is recommended for railcar and general equipment maintenance. It
exhibits exceptional adhesion to a wide variety of substrates including
minimally prepared cold rolled steel, galvanized steel, existing coatings,
and even aluminum without pretreatment.
Use where long term exterior durability and gloss retention is
required. Not recommended for
immersion service or for areas subject to continual solvent splash. SURFACE
PREPARATION Apply over primer
(follow primer surface preparation instructions) or direct-to-metal. For DTM service, substrates should be
blasted to SSPC-SP-6 minimum, with a 1-mil blast profile. Feather all rough or sharp edges. This coating is very forgiving of less
than perfect surface preparation, so hand tool cleaning may be sufficient for
some uses. At a minimum for
acceptable performance, all surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free
of oil/grease, loose rust/paint, weld |
spatter,
burning slag, dust, and chalk. Chalky
or dusty surfaces should be power washed and allowed to dry completely. THINNING Under
normal conditions no thinning is necessary or desirable. Thin if necessary with water only, do not
use organic solvents or oils. Add
water a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by
volume. APPLICATION
EQUIPMENT May
be applied by brush, roller, or airless spray. Airless spray gives the best results, use .015-.020 inch tip
size. Use roller covers with 3/8 to 1/4-inch
nap. Brushes should be of polyester
or nylon construction. Do not apply with
a cup type spray gun. Apply 2-3 mils
dry film over primer, 3-4 mils dry film DTM. 8 to 11 mils wet film will give
3 to 4 mils dry. DRYING
TIME Dries
to recoat or stencil in 1 to 1.5 hours at 77 0F
and 50% Relative Humidity. High
humidity will prolong dry time more so than low temperatures. To speed the dry time good air movement
over the work and local exhaust is recommended. Heat lamps are not suitable as they tend to trap solvent within
the paint film causing water sensitivity. ENVIRONMENTAL This product meets
current air pollution |
regulations
regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive emissions. It contains no lead, chromate, or zinc. PHYSICAL
