GENERAL
DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s
#20-14 Yellow Paint is a VOC compliant, water based acrylic emulsion
paint. It is designed as a low-gloss,
dip applied, fast drying direct-to-metal coating for corrosion protection of
metals. The cured film exhibits very
good flexibility, salt, and chemical resistance. This coating provides a .8-1.4 mil thick dry film that can be applied in one economical coat when
used as supplied. It does contain nontoxic corrosion inhibiting pigment. RECOMMENDED
USES This
product is recommended for use on clean steel. It exhibits exceptional
adhesion to a wide variety of substrates including minimally prepared cold
rolled steel, galvanized steel, existing coatings, masonry, and even aluminum
without pretreatment. Not recommended for immersion service or for areas
subject to continual solvent splash. SURFACE
PREPARATION For
severe service, metal substrates should be blasted to SSPC-SP-6 minimum, with
a 1 mil blast profile. This coating
is very forgiving of less than perfect surface preparation, so hand tool
cleaning may be sufficient for some uses.
At a minimum for acceptable performance, surfaces to be coated must be
clean, dry and free of oil/grease, loose rust/paint, weld spatter, burning
slag, dust, and chalk. Feather all
rough or sharp edges. Alkyd type
paints should be deglossed before being recoated. Chalky or dusty surfaces should be power washed and allowed to
dry completely. |
THINNING Under
normal conditions no thinning is necessary or desirable. Thin if necessary with water only. Do not
use organic solvents or oils. Add
water a little at a time with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by
volume. APPLICATION
EQUIPMENT May
be applied by dipping, flow coat, brush, roller, or spray. Dipping is the
preferred method of application. Dip tanks must be monitored for proper pH
range to prevent flash rusting. Maintain pH between 8.8 and 9.6. Use roller
covers with 3/8 to 1/4 - inch
nap. Brushes should be of polyester
or nylon construction. This product may be used with a cup type spray
gun. DRYING
TIME Dries
to recoat in ˝ hour to 1 hour at 77 0F and 50%
Relative Humidity. High humidity will
prolong dry time more so than low temperatures. To speed the dry time good air movement over the work and local
exhaust is recommended. Heat lamps
may be suitable for use but care must be exercised in heating too quickly,
this may tend to trap solvent within the paint film causing water
sensitivity. CLEANUP Clean
equipment with warm soap and water before the film dries. |

product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and
ozone reactive emissions. It contains
