GENERAL
DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s
#16-13057 White Epoxy Topcoat is a two component, phenalkamine cured epoxy
for use where good chemical resistance is needed. It is designed as a high gloss, spray applied, corrosion
resistant, heavy duty, topcoat.
It exhibits excellent adhesion
over a wide variety of substrates, and exceptional corrosion, water and chemical resistance with the ability
to cure at much lower temperatures than conventional epoxies. RECOMMENDED
USES Use
to protect machinery, tanks, and structures from corrosion in aggressive
environments where chemicals, salt, water, fuels, and oils are present. Formulated to allow high film build in one
pass to protect hard to cover sharp edges. May also be used as an
encapsulation coating. This formula
will chalk on long term exposure to sunlight. SURFACE
PREPARATION For
severe service, metal substrates should be blasted to an SSPC-SP-10 white
metal blast with a 1.5 +/- .5 mil blast profile. An SP-6 commercial blast may be sufficient for many repair or
DTM applications with less severe requirements. This coating is very tolerant of poor surface preparation; for
tightly adhering existing coatings, degreasing and hand tool cleaning, power
washing, brush blasting, sanding, or a combination of these methods may be
acceptable. All surfaces to be coated
must be clean, dry, and free of oil and grease, loose rust and paint, weld spatter,

burning
slag, dust, and chalk. MIXING
INSTRUCTIONS Mix
4 parts by volume #16-13057-A with 1 part 16-B Hardener. Mix at slow speed to avoid entraining air
into the paint. Use at once, there is
no induction time. Do not reuse previously used mixing containers; partially
cured material will greatly accelerate the cure of the freshly mixed paint
resulting in dramatically reduced pot life. THINNING Thin
if necessary for spraying with xylol or toluol. Add a little solvent at a time to the mixed system with
constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. APPLICATION
EQUIPMENT May
be applied by brush or airless spray.
Airless spray gives the best results, use .015-.020 inch tip
size. Apply 7-8 mils wet film
thickness to yield 3-4 mils dry film thickness. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. CURE
TIMES & TEMPERATURES Cures
set-to-touch in 1.5-3 hours at 77 0F, approximately 2 hours at 70 0F.
Topcoat within 8-48 hours or reduced adhesion of the second coat may
result. Allow 7-10 days cure at 70 0F before placing into severe service,
longer if ambient temperature is lower.
Recommended minimum application temperature is 0 0F.
Below 40 0F
add cold weather accelerator (Pruett-Schaffer part number #13-13715) |
at
a rate of 1 pint per 5 gallons mixed system; this will result in a 24-48 hour
cure time. CLEANUP Clean
equipment with xylol or toluol before the film cures. ENVIRONMENTAL This
product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and
ozone reactive emissions. It is VOC
compliant for the architectural maintenance industry, and contains no lead,
chromate, or zinc. PHYSICAL
