GRAY HEAT, CHEMICAL, & ABRASION RESISTING COATING |

GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s #11-13739 Gray Heat, Chemical, and Abrasion Resisting Coating is based on an amine-cured epoxy phenol novolac system. It provides a durable exterior coating or lining for use in extremely hostile environments. Formulated to allow high film build over hard to cover sharp edges, it can be applied at 7 mils wet film thickness on a vertical surface without sagging, which yields a 6 mil dry film in one pass. RECOMMENDED USES Use as a premium equipment maintenance enamel to protect machinery, tanks, and other steel structures from corrosion in aggressive environments where chemicals, heat and steam, abrasion, salt, water, fuels, and oils are present. This product also exhibits excellent adhesion and abrasion resistance up to 400 0F, wet or dry. It may be used as a low gloss topcoat or primer, and should be spray applied direct-to-metal. Suitable for recoating for higher film build, recoat within 24 hours.SURFACE PREPARATION For severe service, metal substrates should be blasted to an SSPC-SP-10 white metal blast with a 1.0 +/- .5 mil blast profile. An SP-6 commercial blast may be sufficient for many repair or DTM applications with less severe requirements. All surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free of oil and grease, loose rust or paint, weld spatter, burning slag, dust, and chalk. |
MIXING INSTRUCTIONS Thoroughly mix 4 parts by volume #11-13739-A with 3/4 part 11-B Hardener, box the paint while mixing. Mix at slow speed to avoid entraining air into the paint. Do not reuse previously used mixing containers; partially cured material will greatly accelerate the cure of freshly mixed paint resulting in dramatically reduced pot life. There is a 15-minute induction time in conditions of low temperatures or high humidity. THINNING Thinning is normally not necessary, if desired thin with xylol. Add a little solvent at a time to the mixed system with constant gentle agitation to a maximum of 5% by volume. APPLICATION EQUIPMENT May be applied by brush or roller, but conventional air or airless spray gives the best results, use .015-.020 inch tip size. Apply at 7 mils wet film thickness to yield 6 mils dry film thickness. Brushes should be of polyester or nylon construction. Application with a cup type spray gun is not recommended. CURE TIMES & TEMPERATURES Air dries set-to-touch in 3 hours at 70 0F, tack free in 4-5 hours. Recoat or topcoat before heat curing within 5-24 hours or reduced adhesion of the second coat may result. Final cure is achieved by heating above 225 0F for 1-2 hours. Heat cure is required before placing into severe service, this coating will not develop maximum abrasion resistance without final cure. Recommended minimum application temperature is 50 0F. |
CLEANUP Clean equipment with xylol or toluol before the mixed coating cures. ENVIRONMENTAL This high-solids product meets current air pollution regulations regarding hydrocarbon and ozone reactive emissions. It is VOC compliant for the architectural maintenance industry, and contains no lead, chromate, or zinc.
