67-SERIES

POLYURETHANE ENAMELS

 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Pruett-Schaffer 67-series coatings are single package, air-drying, solvent based, oil modified polyurethane coatings. When long oil modified they have been one of the maintenance industry’s workhorse floor and deck enamels for years due to their cost effectiveness, ease of use, and outstanding abrasion resistance for an alkyd-like paint. These coatings are available in high solids formulations, and can be supplied in semi- or high-gloss finished in a complete range of colors including Mil. Spec, Federal 595, OSHA, and custom colors.

 RECOMMENDATIONS

The coatings are recommended for use over concrete, metal or wood substrates exposed to normal atmospheric conditions anywhere a good general-purpose alkyd maintenance enamel may be used. They may be applied direct-to-metal, over primer, or over existing coatings. These coatings are resistant to the active alkali in new concrete and mortar, and will resist the "burn through" that occurs with ordinary alkyd enamels. They will provide good, long term, and cost effective protection against water and common household chemicals for maintenance of wood or metal furniture, wood floors and decks, concrete or masonry.

 SURFACE PREPARATION

 Substrates may be degreased, chemically

cleaned, blasted, or sanded, depending upon the surface. Power sanding or brushing followed by spot priming should be used to prepare rusted steel surfaces. Existing coatings, if tightly adhering, should be deglossed if necessary by brush blast or sanding; if the surface is chalky or dirty, power wash it first and allow to dry. Feather all rough edges.

 THINNING

May be thinned with mineral spirits or aromatic naphtha, but these paints are shipped ready to brush and normally need no thinning. Over thinning may cause curtaining or sagging.

 APPLICATION EQUIPMENT

These coatings may be applied by brush, roller or by regular spray equipment. Apply to maintain a dry film build per coat of between 1 and 3 mils.

 CURING TIMES & TEMPERATURES

Unmodified urethane enamels dry set to touch in 15 to 30 minutes. Long oil modified floor enamels dry tack free in 3 to 6 hours under normal conditions (70 0F) when applied at 4-6 mils wet film in a single pass. They may be recoated in 24 hours if needed, ultimate cure is achieved in 7-10 days.

 CLEANUP

Clean up with mineral spirits before the coating cures.
