GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s 35-Series coatings are single component, air-drying, solvent based, and chainstopped alkyd coatings. They are designed for use as cost-effective maintenance finish coats over metal substrates. They feature good exterior durability, easy spray application with thin film hiding, and very fast dry in a conventional solids formulation. They can be supplied in semi-gloss or high gloss finishes and as a dry fall paint, in a complete range of colors including Federal 595 and OSHA safety colors. They are NOT VOC compliant! RECOMMENDATIONS 35 Series are recommended for use over ferrous metal substrates exposed to normal atmospheric and industrial conditions anywhere a good general purpose alkyd maintenance enamel may be used and fast dry is desired. Formulated to be applied over primer, they may be used direct-to-metal in many circumstances. They will resist UV-induced chalking and fading, and provide excellent long term and cost effective protection for maintenance of heavy equipment, implements, and steel structures. 35-Series coatings are not recommended for use on wood or other dimensionally unstable substrates, and should not be used in immersion or several chemical exposure service. SURFACE PREPARATION For standard service, metal substrates

should be degreased and sandblasted in accordance with SSPC-SP-6 commercial blast with a <1-mil profile. Less rigorous surface preparation may result in good serviceability in normal conditions, for example chemical cleaning or power sanding/brushing. Existing paints should be deglossed by brush blasting or sanding; if the surface is chalky or extremely dirty, power wash it first and allow to dry. Feather all rough edges. THINNING May be thinned with xylol or aromatic naphtha, but these paints are shipped ready to use and normally need no thinning. Overthinning may cause curtaining or sagging . APPLICATION EQUIPMENT Conventional air or airless spray equipment is the preferred method and will result in the best performing protective coatings. Typical recommended dry film build is 1-2 mils when applied over primer, 2-3 mils when applied direct-to-metal. DRYING TIMES & TEMPERATURES These paints are very fast drying. Typical tack free dry times of 15-20 minutes in normal shop conditions (70 0F) are attainable when spraying 2 to 3 mils wet film in a single pass. They may be recoated in 2-3 hours if needed, ultimate cure is achieved in 5-7 days.
