GENERAL DESCRIPTION Pruett-Schaffer’s 26-Series coatings are single component, fast air drying, water based, rust inhibitive metal primers. They are formulated as normal alkyd type general-use shop primers in dip or spray viscosity, or as epoxy ester type pre-construction primers where welding will take place following primer painting. The alkyd primer is designed to be used as a general maintenance primer or low gloss topcoat. This product combines the exterior durability and good adhesion and corrosion resistance of a solvent based alkyd with the non-flammability, and low toxicity of a water-based product. The weldable primer is designed to be used in corrosive environmental conditions or where adhesion to the substrate may be difficult. It has outstanding wetting properties yielding excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates, including marginally prepared metals, galvanized steel and untreated aluminum. This is a primer only, and is not intended as a permanent exterior protective coating in itself. Note: if used over galvanized steel, the metal should not be quenched following galvanizing; contaminant residue on quenched metal may cause adhesion failure. SURFACE PREPARATION The performance of these products will be in direct proportion to the quality of surface preparation. Remove heavy accumulations of grease and oil, if present, with the appropriate solvents or detergents and rinse well. For best results, spot rust & mill

scale be removed from steel surfaces by sandblasting to SSPC-SP-6. Hand or power tool cleaning is acceptable for most applications. Weathered galvanized steel must be power washed to remove water soluble zinc corrosion products before using these coatings. THINNING Under normal conditions no thinning is necessary. If desired, thin with water/butyl cellosolve (80/20) to a maximum of 5% by volume. APPLICATION EQUIPMENT Apply with regular spray equipment, or dip if applicable. Use .017 to .021 spray tip size, 30:1 pump ratio with 3 gallon per minute output. Maintain a dry film build per coat between 1-3 mils. DRYING TIMES & TEMPERATURES These primers usually dry to recoat in 1 to 2 hours at 77 0F and 50% relative humidity, but this depends on film thickness and type of primer. The epoxy esters typically dry slower. High humidity will prolong dry time more so than low temperatures. Good air movement over the work area or local exhaust is recommended. Allow 7-10 days dry time at 75 0F before entering severe service. CLEANUP These products clean up easily with soap and water before the paint dries hard.
